Laura Dean – Printed Textiles and Surface Design

Laura started at Banbury College and went on to study at Bath Art School. She finished in 2012, but found it very difficult to get a job, so she did internships as a screen printer for people like Sandra Rhodes and Mary Katrazoy. While with mary katrazoy, she started doing embroidery and Mary liked it so much that she kept her on and that is where her career started.

She loved screen printing and started screen printing dresses and also started hand printing pieces.  She began taking pieces from the 60s and reprinting old designs. She worked for a Company called The House Beautiful and had people working for her. She got a big order from Matches – an internet company – and also began working  for other High Street brands such as SeasonWind (Chinese) and Monsoon. It was very hard work working for such large companies and very long hours.

So she decided to start her own Company, the Prince’s Trust helped her start up and she found a work shop in Kingham Oxfordshire. The Trust helped her with her business plan and to get a loan and Mentored her. Now she is giving courses in screen printing. She makes purses and bags and other items to sell, and also has open studios. To get more information about her courses, visit her website, http://www.silkscreen. co.uk
